The Raider boys’ soccer team saw its five game winning streak, and season, come to an end with a 2-1 overtime loss to Wausau East in a WIAA Division 1 sectional semifinal last Thursday, Oct. 20 in Wausau.

Hudson’s season ends with a record of 11-11-0, including a pair of wins over Marshfield and top-seed Eau Claire Memorial in the playoffs that earned the Raiders a regional title.

It looked like Hudson’s playoff run would continue when sophomore defender Cavan Denning fired a 30-yard line drive from the right sideline into the upper left corner of the net to tie the score, 1-1, in last Thursday’s sectional semifinal.

The Raiders had outshot the Lumberjacks 16-9 in regulation and appeared to have the momentum after Denning’s game-tying goal in the 75th minute, which was assisted by junior Micah Pederson. But Wausau East midfielder Nick Sorenson scored at the 6:15 mark of overtime to give the Lumberjacks the win.

Hudson sophomore goalkeeper Mitch Rosiejka finished with eight saves in the game.

Wausau East advanced to last Saturday’s sectional final against Chippewa Falls, where it lost a 2-0 decision to end its season with a record of 16-6-0. Chippewa Falls, who the Raiders split with during the regular season, improved to 20-4-2 and will face Kettle Moraine in a WIAA State Tournament quarterfinal game Thursday, Oct. 27, at 5 p.m. at Uihlein Park in Milwaukee.
