Former Hudson Raider Ben Gresmer was crowned slam dunk champion at UW-River Falls’ Midnight Madness, which kicked off the Falcon basketball season overnight Oct. 15-16.
Gresmer wowed the judges and crowd at the Karges Center with a series of acrobatic dunks, including jumping over a teammate in a chair who fed him the ball while he was in the air.
Gresmer, a 6-foot, 4-inch junior guard at UWRF, was an honorable mention All-Big Rivers Conference selection as a senior on the Raiders’ last BRC championship team in 2009.
UWRF’s Midnight Madness marked the first practice of the season for the Falcons, who are ranked No. 21 in the D3hoops.com 2011-12 preseason poll.
The Falcons finished the 2010-11 season 20-8 overall and 12-4 in the WIAC. They advanced to the WIAC playoff championship game and the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
The Falcons open their 2011-12 season Tuesday, Nov. 15 with a non-conference game at Viterbo. Their home opener is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m. at Karges Center against defending national champion St. Thomas. The Tommies are ranked No. 8 in the D3hoops.com preseason poll.
