Ronald James Boumeester, age 72, of Hammond, Wis., passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, Nov. 7, at his home.
Ronald James Boumeester, age 72, of Hammond, Wis., passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, Nov. 7, at his home.
Ronald was born on March 30, 1939, to Lloyd (Jim) and Loretta (Bergman) Boumeester. He was married to Julie Ann Moen on Nov. 10, 1956, and on Nov. 10th they would have celebrated their 55th anniversary.
Ron spent his entire life in the Hammond area, with the exception of spending winters at Sunlife Vacation Resort in Mesa, Ariz., where he was known as the “handyman” as he enjoyed helping others at the park with a variety of projects.
Ron worked as a lineman for St. Croix Electric for 36 years. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hammond, a past member of the Hammond Lions Club for many years, a charter member of the Hammond Golf Club, and also worked with Habitat for Humanity building houses. Ron was passionate about the game of golf and enjoyed time with family and friends at the cabin on Bone Lake that he and Julie owned for many years.
Ron is survived by his wife, Julie of Hammond; daughters, Teri (Mike) Leaf, Eau Claire, and Lori (Roger) Kooiman, Hammond; grandchildren, Brad (Alison) Holzer, Bryan Holzer, Allison Leaf, Jordan Kooiman, Casey Kooiman, and Jake Kooiman; great-grandchildren, Tadan, Teague, and Trennon Holzer; brother, Bruce (Janet) Boumeester of Albuquerque, N.M.; sisters, Marlys (Lory) Hawkins of Roberts, Sharon Gardner of Webster, Wis., and Brenda (Glen) Birkland of Bismarck, Ark.; sister-in-law, Mary Kay Foster of Roberts; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father- and mother-in-law, Julian and Esther Moen; and brothers-in-law, Wilson Foster and Tom Gardner.
A memorial service to celebrate Ronald's life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hammond with Pastor Michael Briggs officiating. Private interment will be in the Hammond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Baldwin and 1 hour prior to the service on Saturday at church. Memorials are preferred.
