An elderly North Hudson couple suffered serious injuries in a three-car pileup on Hwy. 35 near the intersection of Edgewood in the town of St. Joseph Saturday evening.
The St. Croix County Chief Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Knudson said Harry Toussaint, 73, 1015 Alta Ave. N., was reported in critical condition at Regions Hospital in St. Paul Sunday evening. Patricia Toussaint, 72, was also admitted to Regions with injuries.
The sheriff’s accident report said Melvin Reed Jr., 64, Bayport, Minn., was headed north on Hwy. 35 about 5:35 p.m. Dec. 3 when he crossed the centerline and struck the Toussaints’ 2006 Toyota Sienna head on.
Reed’s 2007 Dodge Dakota then struck a 2005 Mazda driven by Paul Creager, 36, Stillwater. The Toussaints’ van landed in the west ditch, Creager’s car was stopped on the shoulder and Reed’s pickup halted in the middle of the highway.
Reed was transported to a Stillwater hospital. Creager suffered minor injuries and a passenger in his car, Angela Knudson, 38, was not injured.
The sheriff’s report said all those involved were wearing seatbelts. The season’s first snowfall had created slippery road conditions. Knudson said an investigation continues and charges are possible.
