Salvation Army needs more ringers, donations to meet goal

With less than two weeks to go until Christmas, the Salvation Army in St. Croix County is in need of a lot of help. The Red Kettle Campaign has raised approximately $42,000 so far this campaign and needs to raise $100,000 to help the individuals and families in need in St Croix County.

With less than two weeks to go until Christmas, the Salvation Army in St. Croix County is in need of a lot of help. The Red Kettle Campaign has raised approximately $42,000 so far this campaign and needs to raise $100,000 to help the individuals and families in need in St Croix County. That leaves a gap of over $58,000.

According to the Salvation Army, 89 percent of the dollars donated during the Red Kettle Campaign, stay in St Croix County to help “your friends and neighbors.” The demand for assistance has gone up during the recession and many who have never needed it before are suddenly looking for help.

The Salvation Army in St Croix County provides rent assistance, utilities, transportation and medical assistance to families and individuals in need. The Salvation Army also provides milk coupons to the food pantries in the county that are redeemable at local merchants along with the highly utilized “Happy Kids Backpack Program” which provides over 100 families throughout the County with a backpack full of food once a week who are currently on the free or reduced lunch program. The Salvation Army in St Croix County also operates Grace Place, a family shelter in Somerset. Currently the home is housing 24 individuals and families and there is always a waiting list.

Those unable to get to a Red Kettle this holiday season can mail their tax deductible donation to: Salvation Army 203 Church Hill Road, Somerset WI 54025. Anyone interested in volunteering as a bell ringer can contact the Salvation Army at (715) 247-2944 to set up a time to ring.
