Starting next week, students in kindergarten through fifth grade will have the opportunity to be active and have some indoor and outdoor fun in a non-competitive environment. The Get Fit Challenge for Hudson Youth, a healthy living class for kids, encourages participants to get active, eat healthy, appreciate nature and make a difference.

Hudson School District and Hudson Community Education, in collaboration with Healthier Together – St. Croix County, are offering this special winter program as a local resource for families. Organizers hope participants will leave with an understanding of what it means, and what it takes, to be healthy individuals.

Each class provides students with a warm up, workout session, body weight workout, healthy living lesson, nutritious snack and physical activity games, all while having fun.

Class instructor Stacey Chezik, a certified and licensed athletic trainer with Larsen Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy, along with student volunteers from UW-River Falls, is overseeing the program. Chezik said that if the program continues to be a success, it will likely be expanded to include more sessions for more students.

The program consists of six consecutive Monday classes beginning Jan. 23 through Feb. 27. The classes run 6 to 7:30 p.m. and are held at River Crest Elementary and Camp St. Croix (outdoor night). The cost is $10 per student. The program is funded in part by the St. Croix Valley Foundation. Registration is required.
