Locals compete at USA Gymnastics meet
Two Hudson locals kicked off their Men’s USA Gymnastics (USAG) competition season at a meet in West Allis on Saturday, Jan. 7.
Two Hudson locals kicked off their Men’s USA Gymnastics (USAG) competition season at a meet in West Allis on Saturday, Jan. 7.
Wally Magnuson and Sam Metzler both train at Great Northern Gymnastics in St. Paul Park, Minn., and compete at levels 9 and 7, respectively. Magnuson is a freshman at Hudson High School. Metzler is a fifth-grader at River Crest Elementary.
Magnuson, in his first year competing in Optional Level 9, had a promising meet, placing first in vault, second on the pommel horse, and third on rings and high bar. Magnuson finished second in the all-around, taking first place in vault and second place in pommel horse. Great Northern Boys had a first place finish in the Level 9 Team competition.
Metzler, in his second year competing in Compulsory Level 7, placed first in the floor exercise, still rings and parallel bars, with second place finishes on the pommel horse and high bar, to finish first in all-around.
