Hudson Community Foundation funds surpass $2 million

The Hudson Community Foundation received record donations in 2011, setting a milestone in the non-profit, volunteer organization’s 13-year history.

The Hudson Community Foundation received record donations in 2011, setting a milestone in the non-profit, volunteer organization’s 13-year history.

“We recently surpassed the $2 million mark due to a combination of donor contributions and a strengthening economy,” said Dick Whitcomb, HCF president. “This healthy infusion of funds moves the foundation closer to positioning itself to address a wider range of community needs on varying scales.”

Whitcomb said the majority of the new donations were for donor-advised funds, which allow the contributor to choose the non-profit organizations that his or her specific grants will support. Other donations received in 2011 were given to the HCF Community Needs Fund, which is used for grants to non-profit organizations in the Hudson area as determined by a volunteer HCF governing board.

HCF is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the quality of life throughout the Hudson community. As an affiliate of the St Croix Valley Foundation, HCF focuses its work in five key areas: social services, the arts, health care, education, and environmental protection.
