Proact purchases Hudson building

Wisconsin, ProAct, Inc., an Eagan, Minnesota-based non-profit serving people with disabilities, has purchased a commercial building at 1202 Beaudry Blvd. in Hudson to assist its growing client base

Wisconsin, ProAct, Inc., an Eagan, Minnesota-based non-profit serving people with disabilities, has purchased a commercial building at 1202 Beaudry Blvd. in Hudson to assist its growing client base. Officials said the move will solidify its commitment to the Hudson, St. Croix County and western Wisconsin areas.

Employment, life skills, training and other community based activities are the emphasis at the building, which was previously leased by ProAct. The facility serves as a base for people who go on to group and individual jobs in the area. On the western edge of the city’s industrial park, the building also has easy access to the city’s major retail stores.

Large open areas, as well as separate classrooms, a dining room, offices and a centralized kitchen, make the Hudson space highly versatile. Program participants who check in before work in the morning can enjoy some exercise before they head off to a supported job site, said Teresa Ducheneaux, who coordinates the Life Opportunities program.

The building will also be home to ProAct’s expanded vocational service offerings, where people with disabilities will receive assistance in finding independent jobs. Interviews with area employers are underway. ProAct serves people with disabilities from about a 20-mile radius within Wisconsin, including New Richmond and River Falls. ProAct’s participants, supported by staff members, perform clerical, housekeeping, packaging and assembly and other services.

The non-profit is headquartered in Eagan, Minn., and has additional operations in Red Wing and Zumbrota, as well as Hudson. Its mission is to serve individuals experiencing barriers to employment and self-sufficiency due to intellectual and developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, mental health, brain injuries, and other challenges.
