Dear Editor,
It looks like Rep. Sean Duffy is still “struggling” to get by on his mere $174,000 salary. He can’t even afford a suit!
Fortunately, as a member of the U.S. Congress, he does have the Cadillac of healthcare.
Unfortunately, he doesn’t believe his employers, the people of Wisconsin, deserve anything near his quality care. The changes he is advocating for Medicare recipients would only allow the elderly the money to purchase a catastrophic plan, one that would only cover expenses above a large amount, usually 7 to 10 thousand dollars or more. While that might keep someone from going bankrupt due to health problems, the patent would be responsible for all checkups, X-rays, labs, vaccines etc. up to the $10,000.
The end result is that plan members do not see the doctor until they are so sick or hurt that they absolutely have to. I was on one of those plans, I know. That just results in higher medical costs because the illness is not caught early enough to be treated easily. The insurance companies figured this out decades ago for dental work and covered checkups and cleaning with no co-pay in most cases. It just made financial sense; but sense is not what today’s Republicans are all about, is it!
