The Empty Bowl dinner Friday night at The Phipps Center drew a record number of people and raised the most money ever from the Hudson event. This year’s recipient of $1,600 in donations is the Backpack Program that provides food to families in need through Hudson elementary schools.
The event is sponsored by Youth Action Hudson, Hudson High School’s Social Justice League and The Purple Tree in downtown Hudson. Volunteers, both teens and adults, from both organizations were on hand to serve the supper of soup and bread that was donated by Hudson restaurants. Homemade desserts were also donated. The 130 people who attended were served soup in handmade pottery bowls made by students and area potters.
“We couldn’t be more pleased with how the Empty Bowls Dinner turned out; it was a fantastic success,” said YAH Americorps member Samantha Otten. “We especially appreciate those businesses and organizations that donated to the event.”
Among those donating to the effort were Bruegger’s Bagels, Caribou Coffee, County Market, Dick’s Bar and Grill, Erbert and Gerbert’s Sandwich Shop, Family Fresh Market, Fresh & Natural Foods, Hudson Bagel & Coffee Co., Hudson United Methodist Church, Kaladi’s 2.0, Key’s Cafe and Bakery, San Pedro Café, The Nova of Hudson, The SubHouse and Winzer Stube.
