HHS bomb threat investigated

A message written on a Hudson High School wall four weeks ago threatened that a bomb would go off in the school on Monday, Feb. 13.

Hudson Police Department Chief Marty Jensen said the school notified them of the message when they found it and police began an investigation. Jensen said Friday that they considered the incident a “low level threat” based on their findings.

“But we will conduct a thorough search of the premises before school on Monday and we will have a presence on campus that day to reassure students and parents,” said Jensen.

Parents were notified on Friday afternoon via the district’s alert system.

School district spokesman Tracy Habisch Ahlin said that while the threat is considered low level, the district was taking steps to insure student safety. Following the end of school on Friday, teachers searched and locked their rooms. School staff will assist the police in their search of the building and the rest of the campus prior to school on Monday.

There will also be increased staff supervision and additional monitoring on Monday and for the next several days.

Habisch Ahlin said parents can choose to keep their children home on Monday as per school guidelines for an excused absence. Parents are also asked to remind their students that a bomb threat is considered a felony offense.
