Letter: Apologizes to senator

I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize to State Sen. Sheila Harsdorf for the assumptions I made in my Feb. 3 letter to the editor of the Hudson Star-Observer. The information that accompanied the video that I saw identified the woman present as Sen. Harsdorf. I had no reason to doubt that information until I read Sen. Harsdorf’s Feb. 10 response to my letter.

Dear Editor

I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize to State Sen. Sheila Harsdorf for the assumptions I made in my Feb. 3 letter to the editor of the Hudson Star-Observer. The information that accompanied the video that I saw identified the woman present as Sen. Harsdorf. I had no reason to doubt that information until I read Sen. Harsdorf’s Feb. 10 response to my letter. I take Sen. Harsdorf at her word that she was not present when Sen. Ellis made very disparaging remarks about public schools.

Youtube video of this conversation can be viewed here: http://youtu.be/FqnpUAfirg8

I can understand why Sen. Harsorf would not want to be associated with this kind of vile behavior, who would? For example, someone on that video who sounds a lot like Sen. Ellis, says: “...I’m chairman of the board... You do not go on television and cut a deal with a liberal (expletive deleted) like him!

“Now go down stairs and rescind your (expletive deleted) that you put out or move your furniture out.”

And to think these are Sen. Harsdorf’s colleagues in the Wisconsin legislature. It’s truly a shame. It reminds me of some of the horrendous fare seen on many reality television shows. This must be what people are referring to when they suggest that there is a “Toxic Atmosphere” in our Capitol. Who would have thought that it would emanate from some of our elected officials? Anyone interested in this type of “entertainment” doesn’t need to watch reality TV on the networks when some of our legislators provide this kind of “entertainment” for free on an almost daily basis?
