Raider roundup: Swimmers shine at state; two wrestlers advance

Hudson senior Charlie Skinner wrapped up his high school career with a pair of top ten finishes at the WIAA State Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday in Madison while a pair of Raider wrestlers finished in the top two in their weight classes at the Eau Claire North sectional to qualify for this weekend’s state tournament.
Skinner took seventh in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 51.94 seconds and eighth in the 200 yard individual medley in 1 minute, 55.63 seconds at the Division 1 state meet at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Natatorium,
Sophomore Willis Skinner also competed in two individual events and placed 15th in the 500 yard freestyle in 4:58.19 and 16th in the 50 yard freestyle in 22.4 seconds.
Charlie and Willie Skinner also teamed up with sophomores August Jorgensen and Sawyer Arndt for a seventh place time of 3:17.43 in the 400 yard freestyle relay. In the 200 yard medley relay, Charlie Skinner, Willie Skinner, sophomore Miles Townsend and sophomore Ross Wusterbarth finished 12th in 1:41.77.
Hudson finished 14th in the final team standings with 60 points.
At the WIAA Division 1 Individual Wrestling Sectional Saturday at Eau Claire North High School, senior Tanner Owens won the 160-pound championship and senior Kolya Hawksford took second at 152 to both qualify for this weekend’s WIAA State Individual Tournament in Madison.
Juniors Derek Schindler, at 170 pounds, and Dima Hawksford, at 182, just missed earning trips to state by finishing third. Nick Nelson, at 113, and Eliot Motu, at 220, each placed fourth.
In regular season basketball action Saturday, the Raider girls dropped a 66-50 decision to La Crosse Logan while the Raider boys lost, 44-34, to Stillwater.
