Basketball: Girls drop two straight

The Raider girls’ basketball team jumped out to a 16-4 first quarter lead last Friday night at Eau Claire North but the Huskies outscored Hudson 38-11 in the second and third quarters on their way to a 60-43 victory.
Saturday afternoon at home against La Crosse Logan, the Raiders dropped a 66-50 decision to the Mississippi Valley Conference leading Rangers.
Hudson, now 5-13 overall, 1-9 in the Big Rivers Conference, will wrap up the regular season with three home games beginning this Friday, Feb. 24, against Chippewa Falls. Tuesday, Feb. 28, they face New Richmond before hosting River Falls in the regular season finale Thursday, March 1. Tip-off for each game is 7:30 p.m. at the high school.
Last Friday at Eau Claire North (9-10, 8-3), the Huskies erased a 16-4 Raider first quarter lead with a 20-8 second quarter run to tie the score, 24-24, at intermission. North broke the game open by outscoring the Raiders 18-3 in the third quarter on their way to the 17-point victory.
Kindra Witthus led Hudson with 15 points while Jessie Kirkwood added 10. Sarah Krier and Ellie Whitacre scored five points each and Katy Fox had four while Maddie Drewiske finished with three points and Maggie Koehler had a free throw.
Saturday afternoon at home against La Crosse Logan (15-4), Kirkwood hit four three-pointers and the Raiders cut a 14-poimnt halftime deficit to eight at the third quarter but the Rangers pulled away in the fourth quarter to post their fourth straight victory, 66-50.
Kirkwood led three Raiders in double figures with a season-high 19 points. Whitacre added 14 and Drewiske scored 11 while Koehler had four and Krier finished with two.
