Gymnasts shine at conference tourney

Senior Amanda Baker placed in the top five in two individual events and took fourth in the all-around as the Raiders finished fifth at the Big Rivers Conference Gymnastics Tournament last Friday at Meyer Middle School in River Falls.
Hudson posted a team score of 133.925 at the tournament, their second-highest score of the season. River Falls took first with 143.25, followed by Eau Claire North/Memorial with 137.925, Rice Lake/Cumberland with 136 and Chippewa Falls with 135.025. Menomonie finished behind Hudson in sixth place with 100.55.
Hudson’s fifth place tournament finish, coupled with their dual meet record, left them in fourth place in the final BRC standings.
Baker posted a season-high score of 9.2 in the vault and tied for fifth in the floor exercise with a score of 9.15. She just missed making the top five on the balance beam with a sixth place score of 8.875 and tied for 14th on the uneven bars with teammate Maddy Rohde, both with scores of 8.1. Rohde’s score was a season-high on the uneven bars.
Baker’s all-around score of 35.325 was a season-best and good for fourth place.
Sophomore McKenna Daulton contributed to the Raiders’ team score with a season-best score of 8.45 on the balance beam to place 12th and finished 12th in the all-around with a total score of 32.85.
Senior Kirstin Strom turned in her best all-around score of the season—32.0—to finish 14th.
Sophomore Olivia Dunlap was forced to withdraw from the uneven bars with a shoulder injury but competed in the three other individual events and put up solid scores of 8.875 in the vault and 8.675 on the balance beam.
Junior Brooke Miller filled in for Dunlap on the uneven bars and posted slid scores in her two other events—the balance beam and floor.
The Raiders will travel to Stevens Point this Friday, Feb. 24, for the WIAA Division 1 Sectional Tournament. The top two teams, and the top five finishers in each individual event and the all-around, will qualify for the WIAA State Championships March 2-3 in Wisconsin Rapids.
