Raider boys’ hockey team wins regional final

The Raider boys’ hockey team advanced to the sectional round of the WIAA playoffs with a 6-1 victory over Amery last Thursday at Gornick Arena.

The Raider boys’ hockey team advanced to the sectional round of the WIAA playoffs with a 6-1 victory over Amery last Thursday at Gornick Arena.

Hudson, the No. 3 seed in the 11-team bracket, moved on to face No. 2 seed New Richmond this past Tuesday in New Richmond. The winner of Tuesday night’s game advances to the sectional final Saturday at 2 p.m. in Amery.

Last Thursday against Amery, senior Dylan Haskins scored Hudson’s first two goals of the game and added an assist, and Daniel Tripicchio had two goals and an assist in the Raiders’ 6-1 victory over the sixth-seeded Warriors.

After a scoreless first period, Hudson scored four unanswered goals in the second period.

Haskins put the Raiders on the scoreboard with a goal at the 5:11 mark of the second, assisted by Lawrence Pruitt. Haskins scored a shorthanded goal six minutes later, assisted by James Fall, to make it a 2-0 game.

Steven Burke tallied a power play goal at the 13:31 mark of the period, assisted by Pruitt and Tripicchio, before August Nuutinen made it a 4-0 game with 1:17 remaining in the period, assisted by Burke and Pruitt.

Tripicchio tallied a power play goal just over two minutes into the third period to widen the Raider lead to 5-0 before Amery scored its only goal of the game at the 3:49 mark.

Tripicchio’s second goal of the game, another power play score with 3:06 remaining, made the final 6-1.

Hudson goaltender Josh Mattis finished with 10 saves in the win as the Raiders outshot the Warriors, 34-11.
