HASA competes in RF, Rochester

The Hudson Area Swim Association had a busy weekend, sending 32 swimmers to River Falls to compete in a “C-Finals meet,” and six swimmers to Rochester, Minn., for a three-day “A” meet.

The Hudson Area Swim Association had a busy weekend, sending 32 swimmers to River Falls to compete in a “C-Finals meet,” and six swimmers to Rochester, Minn., for a three-day “A” meet.

At the “A” meet in Rochester, HASA was represented by Zach Aherns, 12, Matt Baker, 12, Rachel Baker, 10, Cale Blinkman, 11, Shane Blinkman, 11, and Maria Blinkman, 12. 

Aherns, Matt Baker, Cale Blinkman and Shane Blinkman teamed up in two relay events, taking first place in the 200 yard medley relay in 2 minutes, 1.23 seconds, and second in the 200 freestyle with a new HASA record of 1:48.0.

Aherns cut time in six of the seven events he competed in, including over two seconds in the 200 freestyle, while siblings Rachel and Matt Baker swam in a combined 18 events and siblings Marie, Cale and Shane Blinkman competed in a total of 27 events. Shane Blinkman achieved personal best times in all nine races he competed in.

In the “C” meet in River Falls, eight-year-old Tatum Dietz dropped time in both the 100 freestyle and 50 butterfly, achieving two new “B” times and qualifying her to swim in the “AB” finals.

Isabel Harrelson, 9, shaved over 17 seconds in her 50 freestyle, Kira Young, 8, cut nearly 20 seconds on her 100 freestyle, Bridget Huepfel, 13, dropped 14.32 seconds in her 100 backstroke, Isobel Koenig, 10, shaved 13.34 seconds in the 50 freestyle, Eli Ramthun, 7, cut 13.07 seconds in his 50 backstroke, Jenna Stanze, 12, cut over 14 seconds in her 100 freestyle, Joy Rambo, 9, cut over 12 seconds in her 50 breaststroke, and Kaitlyn Thome, 11, dropped nearly 13 seconds in the 100 butterfly.

Also competing and putting in strong swims were Ethan Alwin, Sara Boylan, Kaitlyn Cardell, Laura Cardell, Maxwell Champlin, Karina Gilson, Alec Gooder, Sara Hoffman, Frances Holmstadt, Claire Jacobi, Jacob Krusell, Madeline Pasche, John Cooper Ramthun, Madison Romig, Elle Runk, Grace Schmidt, Ryan Schneider, Sophia Selliris, Elizabeth Stoerzinger, Samantha Troyer, Jasmine White, Ella Young, and Daniel Zeuli. 

HASA swimmers train year round at the Hudson Middle School, and compete regularly throughout Minnesota. Registration for the spring session is March 6 from 6-8 p.m. For more information, contact Coach Tom Fritchen at tomfritchen@hudsonswimteam.org.
