Dear Editor

I appreciate the citizens of Hudson who voted in the recent primary election. Exercising this important right at this particularly challenging time in Hudson’s K12 education climate was valuable so that the will of the people will be demonstrated on April 3.

As we think ahead to the election, I know I will be continuing to learn more about current school space needs and clarifying the best alternatives to meeting those needs. I am confident that you will be doing the same “due diligence.” Reading the many opinions on this topic in the Hudson Star-Observer is certainly informative, and these comments reflect some serious thinking from varying perspectives. This is democracy at work — since we each have one vote on the upcoming referendum and the election for vacancies on the school board.

My intent, in the near future, is to set up some listening sessions so I can learn more about your perspectives, not only about the referendum, but also about the many and diverse challenges facing the Hudson School District.

The Hudson schools provide excellent programming for our children and benefit (through the arts, sports, student volunteering, service learning etc.) the larger community. I am confident that we all want what is best not just for 2012, but to build on the positives of the past as we move toward a very challenging and exciting future.

Editor’s note: The writer is a candidate for the Hudson School Board.
