VIDEO: Raiders place second in their division at the State Cheer Championships

Here's the performance that won the Hudson High School cheer and stunt team second place in the co-ed small group division at the state competition in Madison on Feb. 25.

The Hudson High School cheer and stunt team took second place in the co-ed small group division at the state championships in Madison on Feb. 25.

It was the team’s best performance yet at state, after placing fourth in the co-ed small group division in two the previous two state competitions in Green Bay.

The team has placed first in the past three regional competitions at Wisconsin Rapids.

The Raider cheer and student team hasn’t received much publicity since it was formed six years ago by coach Suzi Robele, a math teacher at the high school. Most people in the community probably don’t even know it exists.

But the team members work hard on their routines, practicing for two hours after school on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. They also practice on some Saturdays and lift weights for a half-hour twice a week.

The cheerleaders who support Raider athletic teams are joined by male students to form the competition cheer and stunt team. The boys provide the muscle for the pyramids and acrobatics.

Above is a video of team’s performance at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
