Girls Basketball: Kirkwood, Witthus are All-BRC

Raider senior Jessie Kirkwood has earned a spot on the All-Big Rivers Conference Girls’ Basketball Team for the second straight season while junior Kindra Witthus was selected for the third straight year.

Raider senior Jessie Kirkwood has earned a spot on the All-Big Rivers Conference Girls’ Basketball Team for the second straight season while junior Kindra Witthus was selected for the third straight year according to the list released by the conference Monday afternoon, March 26.

Both Raiders were among 11 players to receive honorable mention to the 2012 team. Kirkwood also received honorable mention in 2011 while Witthus was honorable mention in both 2010 and 2011.

Kirkwood, a 5-foot, 8-inch guard, led the Raiders in scoring with an average of 11 points per game this season while Witthus, a 5-6 guard, was the team’s second leading scorer with an average of nearly eight points.

Jenna Orr of Rice Lake was named the 2012 BRC Player of the Year and was joined on the All-BRC first team by McKenna Gruber of Eau Claire Memorial, Kayla Hanley and Kayla Knez of Chippewa Falls, and Kayla Hagedorn of Eau Claire North.

Second team honors went to Chippewa Falls’ Rachel McDonald, Rice Lake’s Megan Willger, Eau Claire North’s Kayonna Lee, River Falls’ Lexi Knotek and Eau Claire Memorial’s Lauren Novak.

The Raiders finished the 2011-12 season with a record of 4-18 overall, 1-11 in BRC play.
