Dear Editor,

This week I watched with amazement at the president’s attack on the role of the Supreme Court. As the president says he is a constitutional scholar I would have thought he would have understood that it is the role of the Supreme Court to decide if a law is constitutional. In 1803 this was ensured by Marbury vs. Madison, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marbury_v._Madison). It was the first time a Western court declared a law unconstitutional, thus helping to define the powers and limits of the judicial and executive branches of government. “A legislative act contrary to the Constitution is not law.” Justice Marshall.

Below are two articles, in case you missed the president’s words and the subsequent slap down by a judge on the 5th circuit who has asked the Justice Department to write essentially a book report, single spaced, type written and minimum three pages to help the president and his administration understand the role of the Supreme Court: www.lifesitenews.com and www.newsmax.com.

In light of these threats to the Constitution by President Obama and his administration, I would recommend the free online course offered by Hillsdale College entitled, “History and the Meaning of the Constitution.” See this link: http://constitution.hillsdale.edu.

All Americans, regardless of party affiliation or special interests, should be concerned about the integrity of our government. We must return to the wisdom of the founding fathers and continue to keep the powers of the branches separate thus ensuring good government and the prevention of tyranny.
