Resurfacing portions of Grandview Drive and Carmichael Road are two of the big-ticket items in a $981,000 capital improvements budget for 2012 approved Monday night by the Hudson City Council.

The council put off spending an estimated $320,000 to reconstruct one block of Locust Street, between Second and Third streets, in order to free up funds for the Grandview and Carmichael street projects.

Public Works and Parks Director Tom Zeuli and consulting engineer Dennis Postler said it made sense to postpone the Locust Street reconstruction to when Vine Street is rebuilt, possibly as soon as 2013.

Zeuli said Grandview Drive north of Vine Street has deteriorated badly in the past couple of years.

“We just feel that whole street (north of Vine) needs reconstruction,” he said, estimating the cost of the project at about $370,000.

It will cost about $220,000 to mill and overlay Carmichael Road from Vine Street to north of the St. Croix County Government Center, Zeuli said.

The capital improvements budget also includes money to put an asphalt surface on the city’s last dirt alley behind River Street, between Sixth and Seventh streets.
