Roundabout construction starts near Roberts
A $24.8 million contract to reconstruct the I-94/Wis. 65 interchange as well as a portion of I-94 was scheduled to begin Monday, April 23.
The project will reconstruct two miles of I-94 from Hudson to Menomonie Road and reconstruct the interchange to a diamond interchange with roundabouts at the ramp terminals.
I-94 will remain open to traffic during construction, with traffic operating on either the east or westbound lanes, depending on project schedule. Wis. Hwy. 65 will also remain open, with single-lane closures planned. Motorists should anticipate delays during peak travel times and use alternate local routes where possible.
Roundabouts
A $7 million contract to construct multiple roundabouts on Hwy. 65 near Roberts is scheduled to begin this week.
The project will improve the intersections of Hwy. 65 with County G, County TT, 120th/U.S. Hwy. 12 and 130th/U.S. Hwy. 12 by constructing modern roundabouts and resurfacing approximately three miles of Hwy. 65 between 70th Avenue and 130th Street.
Setting up traffic control for the project is underway. Motorists should be aware that beginning next week, all-way stop control will be in place at all the intersections until the new roundabouts are constructed. While the stops will enhance safety for turning drivers during the project, motorists can expect traffic congestion, especially during the peak commuting hours.
Local drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes to bypass the work zones. In addition, local road connections to Hwy. 65 at County TT west, 120th Street, 130th Street and County G west will be temporarily closed during construction.
The project has a completion date of November 2012.
