Cancer gets the boot at annual Survivors Dinner

More than 40 cancer survivors accompanied by family, friends and caregivers gathered at Bethel Highlands last week for the annual Relay For Life Survivors Dinner.

More than 40 cancer survivors accompanied by family, friends and caregivers gathered at Bethel Highlands last week for the annual Relay For Life Survivors Dinner.

The evening had a decidedly western feel – to reflect this year’s relay theme, “Kickin Cancer Western Style” – that had volunteers dressed in cowboy shirts, jeans and boots.

Dale Evans had nothing on event coordinator and cancer survivor Terri Wilcox who not only dressed the part but also entertained the guests with some tall tales and a great accent.

Dinner was provided by A’viands Food and Services Management with entertainment by singer/songwriter and cancer survivor Joe Loftus.

Other sponsors included Core Products International, Bethel Highlands, Croix Valley Veterinary, Bremer Bank and Clifton-Larson-Allen.

Door prizes were donated by Family Fresh, Hedberg Aggregates, Core Products International, Hudson Flower Shop, Dick’s Bar & Grill, The Agave Kitchen, The Purple Tree, Knoke’s Chocolates, Et Cetera and Lavender Thymes. The Hudson Hospital Foundation assisted with educational materials.

Recruiting for the relay: Form a team

There is still time to enter a team in the 2012 Relay For Life of Hudson, scheduled June 22-23 at the Hudson Middle School.

American Cancer Society representative Kellie Burrows says that participating in this community event helps raise awareness and funds to fight back against cancer while celebrating survivors and remembering those lost to the disease.

A team captain meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at the Hudson Hospital and Clinics Pine Room. Relay information will be available, and registration fees and t-shirts are due.
