Richard G. Chandler, secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, will address St. Croix EDC’s board of directors at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, in the County Board Room of the St. Croix County Government Center. The EDC’s public and private members as well as the general public are invited.

Secretary Chandler will highlight the new state tax incentives adopted in 2011, and will also describe the administration’s initiatives to control property taxes, balance the state’s budget on a sustainable basis and implement a broad-based job creation strategy. He will answer questions following his presentation.

The DOR administers the state’s major tax laws, including the collection of individual income taxes, sales taxes, corporate income taxes and excise taxes; assists local governments in property assessment and financial management; administers programs that provide state financial aid to local governments; estimates state revenues and forecasts state economic activity; helps formulate state tax policy; and administers the Wisconsin Lottery, which provides property tax relief for homeowners.

Chandler was appointed as DOR secretary by Gov. Scott Walker in January 2011. Chandler stated his goals as secretary are to implement good tax policy, with particular emphasis on policies that will promote job growth; deliver good customer service to individuals and businesses; operate the department efficiently and effectively; and maintain a positive work environment.
