The Hudson Water Utility has announced that it will be flushing water mains in the city on a regular basis throughout the summer.
The mains are typically flushed by opening a fire hydrant. The water runs into the city’s storm sewers.
The Water Utility may set up traffic control signs to warn of the water in the street.
“Home and business owners may experience some water discoloration and air in the water that should quickly clear up once mains have been flushed,” the utility said in a news release.
It is recommended that home and business owners allow their cold water to run for a few minutes at full velocity until the water is clear again.
The flushing is needed to prevent a build-up of sediment in the mains. It also removes stale water from dead-end mains where water moves slowly and sits for longer periods of time.
City residents with questions about the flushing program may phone the Water Utility at (715) 386-4760, ext. 145.
