Longtime Education Foundation Board member Nola Gehn announced recently that she is retiring from the Education Foundation of Hudson Board of Directors.
Gehn was a charter board member, joining when the foundation was founded in 1990. She was honored during ceremonies Wednesday, May 9, at the Hudson Middle School. Gehn has been involved in education much of her life, both as a teacher and a member of the Hudson School District Board of Education (1972-76).
During Wednesday’s ceremony, former foundation board member and current volunteer executive director Steven Keller praised Gehn for her contribution to both the Education Foundation and education in general.
He said Gehn’s work on the foundation was very effective because of her meticulous style of reviewing grant and award applications. He also praised her “Christian values” and upstanding citizenship.
Also at the ceremony was her husband Dale and former Nor-Lake owner Barbara (Blakeman) Richardson. It was Nor-Lake’s support and financial contributions that allowed the foundation to begin in October 1990.
The Gehns have two adult children, Bill of Red Wing, Minn., and Katie of Elk River, Minn.
Since its inception, the foundation has awarded approximately $1,100,000 in grants and awards.
Current foundation board members are Marion Schultz (President), Jodell Krause, Vickie Harris, Dr. Ron Bernth, Bob Benoy, Doug Stohlberg and Arnie Fett.
