Former Memorial Day bugler battles cancer

A former bugler for Memorial Day ceremonies in Hudson is battling cancer.

Nick Rinta, 23, a 2007 Hudson High School graduate and the grandson of Art Feyereisen who, along with his uncle and cousins, has played Taps at a Willow River Cemetery in Hudson, was diagnosed with cancer of a tonsil in early May.

Feyereisen said his grandson was hospitalized at Regions in St. Paul and underwent chemotherapy treatments. He returned home to Hudson last this week.

“He’s have several more months of chemo at the hospital,” said Feyereisen.

“It started with a sore throat about 10 days ago,” said Art. “They removed the tonsil. It happens to young males.”

“He’s battling for his life right now,” said Feyereisen.

Grandfather knows something about a battle with cancer. “I’m a cancer survivor,” said the 80-year-old Korean War veteran.

“I had cancer of the small intestine in 2002. They took out the bad chunk and I had eight months of chemotherapy,” he said.
