Hudson Physicians celebrate a 25-year anniversary and some of the physicians remember the “good old days” and the merger of two former independent clinics — The Hudson Clinic and the St. Croix Valley Family Practice.

The two clinics moved to the clinic that was located next to the hospital on Wisconsin Street and officially became Hudson, St. Croix Valley Physicians Limited. Later they renamed themselves the Hudson Physicians.

Paul McGinnis, M.D., joined the Hudson Physicians in 1987 and remembers the move to the Wisconsin Street location.

“The move provided an upgrade to space, better patient parking, easier coverage of the emergency room and easier access to women in labor,” McGinnis said. “It also provided room for expansion. The space felt so large at the time.”

The Hudson Physicians originally occupied patient rooms in half of the clinic space, but continued to grow and eventually outgrew the clinic and moved to their current location on Stageline Road in 2003.

Vicki Mayer, M.D., and one of the original partners of Hudson Physicians delivered the first baby in the new hospital and remembers “move day” very well.

“My patient labored in the hospital on Wisconsin Street, but was the first to give birth in the new hospital,” Mayer said. “That’s not something that happens every day.”

Hudson Physicians, a division of Western Wisconsin Medical Associates, is an independently owned clinic staffing over 24 physicians to provide primary and specialty care services.
