The end of the school year always brings loads of fun and excitement for students. It also is a time when kids look back and think about all they have experienced and accomplished over the past nine months. Nothing can capture these moments throughout the year better than the school yearbook. Who better to capture these moments then, well, the students themselves.

The yearbook staff at Hudson High School is headed by Supervisors Deb Lee and Stephen Kennedy. Lee teaches business education at the high school, while Kennedy teaches in the language arts department. They lead a staff of over forty students that contribute to the “True Blue Annual” throughout the year.

The process for each year’s edition starts in late May. The yearbook starts with the spring events of the previous year, then covers the fall and winter happenings of the current school year. The staff places a March deadline on the book so it can be distributed to all of the students by year’s end.

The staff puts in, as they put it, “countless hours” of work each year on the book. Most students put in one hour each day during the school week and then work the occasional late night to meet their deadlines on certain pages. The staff has already begun work on next year’s yearbook.

It is a monumental task to try to capture memories from over 1,600 students over a year’s span, and there are obviously going to be challenges. The staff pointed out the most difficult obstacles as being writing, getting quotes, interviewing and meeting deadlines.

And the best part of working with the yearbook? At the end of the year, when you see everyone’s smiling faces,” said a member of the staff.

Not just anyone is cut out to work for the yearbook. The staff recommended that you be “creative and have lots of time on your hands” if you plan on being part of this committee.

The theme for the 107th volume of the True Blue Annual, as democratically selected last May, is “you are 1 2.” The theme places an emphasis on school spirit and showing how everyone is indeed, a true-blue Raider. The color scheme is the school colors of blue and white. It is also fitting as this year is the graduating class of 2012. The yearbook focused on the numbers and steps it took to get things done the Raider way at the high school.

At Hudson High School, if you take two great supervisors, over forty hard-working students, and put in countless hours of effort, you get over 1,200 copies of one exceptional yearbook.
