Retired Hudson businessman Will Savadge has found a new calling -- writing poetry.
Savadge recently published “The Covered Bridge And Other Poems.” Actually, this in not Savadge’s first attempt at poetry.
“Writing poetry has been a hobby of mine all my life,” Savadge said. His first book was published in 1961, titled “Princess Helene.” That book is no longer in print.
Savadge closely guards his age, but most suspect he is well into his 90s. He spent most of his career in the paper business, beginning as an executive with Union Camp Corporation in New York City. From there he found his way to Hudson in 1980 when he became general manager of Duro Bag. After retiring from Duro, he opened his own company, Hudson Paper Company, where he served as president for 10 years.
Savadge is also an avid golfer and has recorded three holes-in-one.
The book is illustrated by local artist Jeanette Richards. The dedication inside the front of the book reads: For June, my only Love….and our wonderful daughters, Deborah of New York City, Helen of Princeville, Hawaii.
The book is currently on sale at Chapter 2 Books, 422 Second St.
