The Hudson Area Lacrosse Association’s varsity team cruised past Mankato, with a 21-4 first round play-off victory last Friday night, June 1, at Hudson’s Grandview Park.
Mankato kept it close in the early goings, trailing just 2-1, before Hudson pulled away. Senior defenseman Alec Vanasse scooped up a ground ball and charged the length of the field to score the last goal of the first quarter and put Hudson up 6-2.
Hudson outscored Mankato 8-1 in the second quarter to take a 14-3 halftime lead.
Mankato opened the third quarter with a goal, but it was all Hudson after that. MacKay Potter and Anthony Queener both completed double hat tricks for six goals each, and Hudson led 19-4 after three quarters.
Mankato showed its frustration with several penalties in the fourth quarter, and Hudson added two goals for a final score of 21-4.
Along with Potter, Queener and Vanasse, Hudson scorers included Taren Motte and Brandon Schwartz with two goals each, and Matt Weseli, Adam Lipps, Spencer Knapp and Cole Bjork with one each.
Hudson is ranked No. 4 in the Minnesota Boys Scholastic Lacrosse Association state rankings, and faced No. 3 ranked Montiquois in a state quarterfinal match-up Monday, June 4, at Irondale High School in New Brighton.
