County sells two plots, profit to go to debt retirement

The St. Croix County board passed two resolutions to sell plots of land at their last meeting on June 5th. The first resolution authorized the sale of county property to St. Croix Valley Professionals, Inc.

The land was directly negotiated between the county and St. Croix Valley Professionals and it cleared up some long standing “encroachment issues” that the county had incurred with the property that was directly next to what the company had already owned.

The land totaled just over 1.5 acres and the sale netted the county $38,053.28. The vote passed through the board by a 13-2 margin.

The other land sale involved the Cylon Wildlife Area in New Richmond, otherwise known as the “Cylon Marsh” to residents of the area. The region was completely surrounded by state land and was not being utilized by the county.

The forty-acre plot was sold to the DNR for a negotiated price of $28,960. The vote passed the board 14-3.

Amendments were added to both resolutions that stated profits must go towards retiring county debt. Both amendments were passed easily. The board looks to eventually pass a resolution that states all profits from sales of county property are to automatically go toward retiring debt.

County Board Notes:

  • There will be no board meeting in the month of July. The board will instead hold a committee of the whole meeting on July 17th to cover the pay-for-performance model that will be under review for the August meeting.

  • A resolution approving a grant application for the Snowmobile Trails Aids Program was approved by a vote of 17-0. The grant will supply approximately $54,000 a year to maintenance of trails in collaboration with snowmobile groups.

  • The board passed a resolution to join county housing consortium for administration of Community Development Block Housing Program by a vote of 15-2. The resolution will qualify the county to receive funds for families that need necessary home improvements such as replacing septic systems.
