Hudson man charged in child sex assault

A Hudson man has been charged with three felony counts of second-degree sexual assault of a child in St. Croix County Circuit Court.

Michael James West, 30, made an initial appearance June 22 and was ordered to post a $25,000 cash bond.

He is accused of having a sexual encounter with a 13-year-old girl early on June 17 at his Hudson residence without her consent.

The charges stemmed from the investigation of a complaint of a juvenile runaway who had been under house arrest.

West allegedly met the girl outside in a residential area early in the morning, took her to the bedroom in his apartment where he locked the door and engaged in all manners of sexual activity with her. The girl had known West previously, the complaint said.

A preliminary hearing for West was set for July 2.
