Hudson junior Mike Hommes has been selected honorable mention to the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association All-State Team for his play on the field this season and earned WBCA Academic All-State honors for his work in the classroom.

Classmate Todd Mork was also honored by the WBCA by earning honorable mention to the All-District I Team.

Previously, both Hommes and Mork were named to the All-Big Rivers Conference First Team. Hommes also garnered a spot on the WBCA All-District I First Team.

Hommes led the Raiders in hitting this season with an average of .413 while posting the most runs scored (32), total hits (38), doubles (14) and triples (5) of any Hudson player since 2005.

On the mound, Hommes tied Kellen Pearson for the team lead in victories with five, while throwing the Raiders’ only complete-game shutout. He was voted the Raiders’ 2012 Most Valuable Player by his teammates.

“Michael had an excellent spring at the plate, in the field and on the mound and I am very happy he was recognized at the state level for his accomplishments,” Raider baseball coach Ryan Huppert said. “Mike worked extremely hard this off season on his swing even with being involved in football and hockey and it showed this baseball season. It just goes to show what hard work, commitment and dedication can help you accomplish and Michael excels at all three of those traits needed for success in both the classroom and on the athletic field.”

Mork, a first baseman, led Hudson with four home runs and 21 runs batted in and was named the Raiders’ 2012 Most Improved Player.

Hommes and Mork were among eight Raiders named to All-BRC teams this season. Seniors Brett Steinwagner and Kellen Pearson, and sophomore Miles Lewis, were named to the second team, while senior Drew Pheneger and juniors Stef Smith and Austin Evenson earned honorable mention.

The Raiders finished the 2012 season with a record of 7-5 in BRC play, 16-9 overall.
