Dear Editor,
In his letter of last week school board member Mark Kaisersatt seemed frustrated with taxpayers asking for accountability. I would respectfully suggest that if Mr. Kaisersatt spent half as much time diligently carrying out his duties as a school board member as he does penning letters to the editor, that the district would not be in its current state of disarray.
Veteran teachers quitting prior to retirement and others being fired at will without proper cause should be a signal to Mr. Kaisersatt that this district is in dire need of new leadership. Instead he lashes out as though no problems exist and everything is running smoothly. The only thing missing from his letter was the much overused terms of “anti-education” and “vocal minority”.
The Hudson School Board is hopelessly dysfunctional. We have a superintendent that completely manipulates and controls the board. As I see it, the only person with a clear understanding that the board actually oversees Superintendent Bowen-Eggebraaten and not the other way around is new member Sandy Gehrke. How refreshing it is to see someone actually perform their proper role as an elected official.
For years Mark Kaisersatt has nodded his head yes to whatever Mary Bowen-Eggebraaten has said. Perhaps he plans for his children to obtain jobs in the district after college, as has been the case with the relatives of other school board members. Or perhaps he is not intelligent enough to understand the complexities of the job before him. Either way, he sets a poor example as someone elected to provide a buffer between the unending wants and wishes of a career government bureaucrat and the average taxpayer.
The arrogance displayed by Mr. Kaisersatt is an insult to the hardworking taxpayers of this district. Not only is he thumbing his nose at those that voted no to this dilapidated mold ridden dog track but he is also doing a disservice to those who voted yes in good faith that the board in fact did their due diligence prior to making this important decision. Thankfully there was a change for the better in this last school board election. One can only hope with Mark Kaisersatt up for re-election this spring that more change is coming.
