All of the fourth-grade classes in the Hudson School District participated in a bookmark design contest sponsored by Friends of the Hudson Library this spring. Students were asked to design a bookmark about the library, books, or reading. Art instructors were Jodi Youngman at Willow River Elementary and Houlton Elementary, Kelyn King at Prairie Elementary, Megan Gaworecki at North Hudson Elementary and River Crest Elementary, Cindy Gresmer at E.P. Rock Elementary and River Crest Elementary, Terri Bekkum at St. Patrick School, and Philip Rabcevich at Trinity Academy. Bookmark designs were judged by Jeanette Richards, a watercolor artist; Jenny Jochimsen, a librarian at the Hudson Area Library; and Julie Zamzow, a second-grade teacher at Prairie Elementary.
At presentation ceremonies in June, designers of the winning bookmarks were each awarded a certificate, as well as prizes donated by Dough Boys Pizza, Knoke’s Chocolates, Dairy Queen, the Hudson Area Library and Friends of the Library. The students described how they got their ideas for creating their bookmark designs.
The eight winning bookmarks (one from each public and private elementary school) have been printed are available at the library’s circulation desk for library patrons to pick up and use.
