The 2012 UW-River Falls softball coaching staff has been named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Great Lakes Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
Head Coach Faye Perkins leads the team, made up of assistant coaches Pam Latterell and Ashley Bertrand.
This is the second straight year the Falcon softball program has been recognized for this award.
The staff led the Falcons to the 2012 WIAC tournament championship and a school record 34 wins. UWRF finished 34-15 overall and 10-6 in WIAC play.
By winning the WIAC tournament title, the Falcons advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in school history and second straight year. UWRF came within a game of advancing to the NCAA Division III World Series.
The Falcons hit .308 as a team and led the WIAC in home runs with 43. The Falcon pitching staff led the WIAC with a 1.93 earned run average and the team led the WIAC in fielding percentage (.965).
Hayley Buchanan and Rose Tusa were named to the NCFA All-America team and Tusa and Ashley Goettl were named CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-Americans. Five Falcons were named to the NFCA All-Great Lakes Region team and six Falcons were named to All-WIAC teams. Tusa was named the WIAC Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season.
Perkins won her 400th game at UWRF when the Falcons beat Bethel, 9-0, April 12.
