Atkinson named chief of Menomonie Police

Hudson Police Department Lt. Eric Atkinson has been named the new chief of the Menomonie Police Department. The announcement was made at a press conference in Menomonie on Wednesday afternoon.
Atkinson has been a member of the HPD for 12 years and was named second in command to Chief Marty Jensen in January. He previously served as a patrol officer, field training officer, firearms instructor, investigator and detective sergeant .
He also served seven months as the interim chief of police in 2007-08.
Atkinson is a Hudson native. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1993 and UW-River Falls in 1997. He has a master’s degree in police leadership and administration from St. Thomas University in St. Paul.
Atkinson and his wife Jennie have two children and live in Hudson.
According to Chief Jensen, Atkinson will assume his new position in September.
