Flower Shop joins ‘Make Someone Smile’ effort
Hudson Flower Shop celebrated nationally recognized Make Someone Smile Week July 22-28 by joining hands with three other valley florists, staff, friends, and families to collectively design and deliver nearly 1,000 flower arrangements to local community members in need of a smile — such as hospital, nursing homes, assisted living homes and shelters located within the St Croix Valley.
According to the results of a national survey, both men and women are in agreement that an unexpected gift of flowers brings about smiles. The survey, conducted online by Harris Interactive on behalf of Teleflora, found that 71 percent of women ages 35-44 said that receiving a bouquet of flowers unexpectedly would make them smile and surprisingly, 49 percent of men in that same age group agreed. No matter the age, a bright bouquet of flowers can improve someone’s mood, considering that 60 percent of U.S. adults ages 55+ would smile upon unexpectedly receiving a floral gift.
“Our goal at Hudson Flower Shop was to design and deliver 400 arrangements in Hudson on Sunday, July 22,” said Shelli Erck, owner of Hudson Flower Shop. “Make someone smile week is a staff initiative. Our staff is excited to participate in sharing beautiful flowers and delivering fun and smiles to residents at Christian Community Home, Wintergreen, Pineridge, Comforts of Home, Red Cedar Canyon and Grace Place.”
Employees, friends and families from Hudson Flower Shop, Pearson Florist and Greenhouse, and Bo Jons Creations gathered that Sunday morning to create flower arrangements in a brightly colored smiley faced mug, donated from the national event founder Teleflora.
“This year marks the 12th anniversary of Make Someone Smile Week and it’s wonderful to share our excitement and enthusiasm for the program,” said Rich Salvaggio Vice President of Industry Relations and Floral Publications, Teleflora.
“It is a real benefit for us to share our love of flowers with others in an unexpected way!” said Bella Romanoski, employee at Hudson Flower Shop.
Erck said wholesale florists also joined efforts to provide the flowers used to create the bright and cheerful bouquets.
“Our relationships with local vendors are invaluable to us,” Erck said. “They supply Hudson Flower Shop with amazing flowers year round and continuously support our success by participating in great events like Make Someone Smile!”
