Dance performance inspired by folklore of Brothers Grimm
"Dances, Chances, Circumstances 8: Grimm,” a dance concert showcasing the work of nine area choreographers, will be performed Aug. 10 – 12 at The Phipps Center for the Arts.
"Dances, Chances, Circumstances 8: Grimm,” a dance concert showcasing the work of nine area choreographers, will be performed Aug. 10 – 12 at The Phipps Center for the Arts.
Inspired by the gathered folklore of the Brothers Grimm, and directed by Mackenzie Lewis, these dances will be fantastical, beautiful, dramatic, and suspenseful, using a variety of dance styles to fully express each choreographer’s unique interpretation of her chosen story. This concert features dancers, ages 15 and older, from the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul area and eastern Wisconsin who train and work at area studios and colleges and/or perform locally.
Stephanie Campbell, a long-time choreographer, co-director of The Phipps Dance Company, and a pre-ballet/tap and modern instructor at The Phipps, will choreograph “Sleeping Beauty.” Maggie Hoadley-Edwards, a returning choreographer from the Twin Cities area, will stage “Snow White.” Lewis, a contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, and modern instructor at the center as well as a returning director, choreographer, and performer in this production, will mount “Little Red Riding Hood.” Erinn Liebhard, a first-time choreographer in this production and jazz educator in the Twin Cities area, will be choreographing “The Elves and the Shoemaker.” Christina Leines, a musical theater, tap, and Broadway jazz instructor at the center, will stage “Beauty and the Beast.” Jennifer Mack, a returning choreographer as well as a performer and dance instructor in the Twin Cities area, will choreograph “Hansel and Gretel.” Joanie Mix, a long-time choreographer and performer with this production, will mount “The Seven Ravens.” Bre Poliak, a returning choreographer from the Twin Cities area, will choreograph “Rapunzel.” Kristine Zappa of Hudson, a first-time choreographer with this production, will stage “Cinderella.”
