Rick D. Whitmire, 60

On Aug. 26, 2012, Rick succumbed to an extended illness at the age of 60. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rick D. Whitmire was born on Jan. 1, 1952, to Jackson B. and Zennia “Brownie” Whitmire in Arkansas. He was raised in Rockford, Ill., but spent much of his childhood in Arkansas with his extended family. As a child, Rick developed a passion for artistic expression. He turned his love of painting and visual arts into a career in graphic design, becoming one of the pioneers of the digital graphics era. Rick's friends loved his jovial and easygoing nature. He also found success as an entrepreneur, running his art and signage business, Trick Designs, in Hudson, Wis., for more than 30 years, with his wife and family.

On Aug. 26, 2012, Rick succumbed to an extended illness at the age of 60.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Trudy, as well as his four children: Dillon (Liza) Whitmire, Jana (Reed) Sutter, Chris (Jenalyn) Whitmire, and Maxx Whitmire, all of St. Paul, Minn.; and two grandchildren; as well as his siblings, Peggy Schull of Rockford, Ill., Jaci Opsahl of Matlacha, Fla., Robert Whitmire of Melbourne, Fla., and Renwick Whitmire of Byron, Ill.

A Celebration of Rick's life will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Visitation will take place after the service until 7 p.m.
