Letter -- Lauds public employees
As summer draws to a close and Hudson area families start thinking about back-to-school shopping, it’s a good time to remember all the public employees who help make this a great place to live.
Dear Editor,
As summer draws to a close and Hudson area families start thinking about back-to-school shopping, it’s a good time to remember all the public employees who help make this a great place to live.
Public employees do things big and small. There are the folks who fix the street, and those who shave down the bumps in the sidewalk so I don’t trip over them. There are the police and firefighters, and the first responders whose sirens always make me grateful that help is nearby. There are people providing human services to those who need them. There are the health inspectors and the extension experts, the teachers and professors and coaches and bus drivers. There are the district attorneys and judges and public defenders. And many of our neighbors are public employees.
The top five employers in St. Croix County include the Hudson School District, St. Croix County, and the New Richmond School District. In Pierce County, the top four employers are UW-River Falls, the River Falls School District, Pierce County, and the Ellsworth School District. Much of the work done by public employees can seem invisible -- but taken together, this work is vital to maintaining strong communities. I’d like to take this opportunity to say “thank you!”
Diane Odeen
