“Camp St. Croix has demonstrated the best of the best when implementing sustainability into its everyday operations and culture.” Said Sustain Hudson’s Stewart Erickson. He said the camp’s Board of Directors has adopted a sustainability resolution, developed a functioning Sustainability Committee and has permeated other committees with leading sustainable practices.

“Hudson High School teacher Patty Mueller, a camp Board Member, has done a wonderful job as Chairperson of the Sustainability Committee along with Katie Bloome – the Senior Programs Coordinator at camp and other committee members and staff,” Erickson said.

Camp St. Croix is leading sustainable educational processes for campers, visitors and the community. Grants from Xcel Energy and the Peter J. King Foundation have helped with the implementation of the new green building, the King Leadership Center at camp (LEED certification in process). The Xcel Energy grant is also funding signage and a kiosk to promote sustainability awareness, including multiple aspect of: invasive species, watershed integrity, renewable energy, energy conservation and local food to name a few.
