Jeffery Robert Mabie passed away Sept. 2 at his home in North Pole, Alaska, surrounded by his family, after a year-long battle with gall bladder cancer.
A celebration of the life of Hudson, Wis., native, Jeffery Robert Mabie, will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 915 Second Ave., Fairbanks, Alaska. There will be a private graveside service at Birch Hill Cemetery.
Jeff was born to Warren and Helen Mabie on July 11, 1945 in Nyack, N.Y. After high school in Hudson, Wis., Jeff attended college at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls and the University of Alaska - Fairbanks. Jeff graduated with many degrees and worked as a chemist for the past 30-plus years at Golden Heart Utilities. Jeff served in the Air Force and was stationed at Eielson Air Force Base. Jeff loved Alaska so much he decided to stay and make Alaska his home.
Jeff loved the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, camping, and adventures of any kind, from whitewater rafting on Alaska's rivers to scuba diving and sun in Hawaii. Jeff met his wife, Patti, at a work Christmas party in 1986. They were married in December of 1987 and shared a wonderful life together.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Helen, and his sister Peggy.
Jeff will be remembered as a caring and loving brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Jeff is survived by his spouse, Patti Mabie; children, Zeb (Sharita) Mabie, Tricia (Mike) Jones, Nichole Hintz, Ian Mabie, Rachel (James) Long, Brittney Mensel, Nellie Lyapana, Blossom, Lisa, Lily, Jana, Hailey, and Eric Mabie; brothers, Tom (Mary) Mabie of Bayport, Minn., Steve Mabie of Fairbanks; sisters Beth Schremp (Kevin) of White Hall, N.C., Kathi (Michael) McGinley of Fort Collins, Colo.; father-in-law, Walter Wigger; brother-in-law, Mike (Patricia) Wigger; sister-in-law, Lisa (Milt) Behr; and close friends Candy Pulice and Bob Rayner, all of Fairbanks. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
