Siegel has earned an international reputation as one of the great blues harmonica masters. He is also a composer, blues pianist, and singer /songwriter. His career began when he formed the Siegel-Schwall Band that toured the major rock palaces and clubs in the ‘60s and ‘70s. He was introduced to the blues through his first steady engagement at Pepper’s Lounge, the internationally renowned blues club in Chicago, where his job included performances with such blues masters as Willie Dixon, Little Walter, Muddy Waters, and Howlin’ Wolf.
“Jazz Profiles” on National Public Radio dubbed Sabien, “The past, present, and future of jazz violin.” He has gained national attention through regular performances on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion” and he has been a guest on one of television’s longest running music shows, “Austin City Limits.” His performances are swinging, rocking, rhythmic, and bluesy.
Together they deliver a performance of dazzling virtuosity, humor, and showmanship.
“Siegel counterbalanced Sabien’s statements with emotionally charged harmonica solos steeped in traditional blues vernacular - Sabien produced countermelodies and accompanying figures of considerable tonal beauty and intellectual heft,” according to Howard Reich of the Chicago Tribune.
