Mayor replies to school board's request for continuance on rezoning

Hudson Mayor Alan Burchill has replied to the request by the Hudson Board of Education for the City Council to once more delay action on the school district’s petition to rezone the St. Croix Meadows dog track property.

“I believe it is in the best interest of all parties that the issue remain on the agenda for the Common Council meeting scheduled for Monday, September 17, 2012, Burchill said in a letter dated Thursday, Sept. 13, and sent to the Star-Observer by email.

He said the request for a continuance will be granted will be granted or denied by the City Council.

“The City of Hudson stands willing to negotiate a resolution to which all parties can agree,” Burchill continued.

He noted that the Plan Commission had previously agree to give the school district and Croixland Properties, owners of the dog track, a four-month extension on the rezoning request.

The purpose of the delay was to give the school district and St. Croix Meadows owners time to “find solutions to the issues that were not addressed by the Plan Commission in April,” Burchill said.

“Some of those issues were not addressed in the report presented at the September 7, 2012, Plan Commission meeting,” the mayor said.

He said that if a continuance is granted, it is in the best interest of all parties that future discussions and meetings take place at regularly scheduled City Council meetings, and not outside of the council chambers at City Hall. He emphasized the word “not” with capital letters.

“I look forward to hearing new ideas and potential solutions that have been developed since the September 7th Plan Commission meeting,” Burchill says in conclusion.

The meeting of the City Council next Monday, Sept. 17, is scheduled for 7 p.m. No announcement has been made of change from the regular venue – the council chambers at City Hall, 505 Third St.
