Jerome "Jerry" D. Dunaski, former principal of the Hudson Junior High School, age 80, of Hudson, Wis., passed away peacefully on Sept. 13, in St. Paul, Minn.
Jerome "Jerry" D. Dunaski, former principal of the Hudson Junior High School, age 80, of Hudson, Wis., passed away peacefully on Sept. 13, in St. Paul, Minn.
Jerome was born March 11, 1932, in Willow River, Minn., and grew up in St. Paul. He was the second son of Albert Dunaski and Odelia (Tootsie) Prohofsky.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Dunaski, and brother, Robert Dunaski; daughters, Kathleen (Mike) Ferguson Quinn, Karen (Jeff) Fagundes, and Angela Allington; sons, Jeff Williams, Mark (Amanda) Williams; grandchildren, Genevieve (Philip) Leavitt, Ashley and Jessica Williams, Blake Allington, Ian Williams, and Nick, Caitlyn, Tim (Julie), Molly, and Dan Quinn; and great-granddaughter, Isla.
Upon graduating from Harding High School, Jerry felt the call to duty; he enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Later, with the assistance of the GI Bill, he received an undergraduate degree from the College of St. Thomas and a graduate degree from the University of Wisconsin - River Falls.
Jerry spent the majority of his career in the Hudson School District, first as a teacher, then eventually securing the position as principal of the junior high and middle school. He was devoted to his students and loved his staff dearly. His tenure in education spanned more than 32 years.
During his retirement, he devoted himself to his family, friends, and his lawn. He loved to spend time with his wife cultivating their garden and relaxing in the pool.
A funeral Mass for Jerry will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hudson. Burial will follow the services at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation for Jerry will be held for 1 hour prior to services at the church as well as from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home. Memorials given will be donated in Jerry's name towards an educational scholarship through the Hudson School District.
