The Hudson High School football team retained possession of the Little Brown Jug for the third straight year and improved to 7-0 in the process by defeating River Falls, 42-7, Friday night, Oct. 5, at Newton Field.
Hudson, ranked No. 6 in this week’s WisSports.Net Division 1 coaches’ poll, got two touchdowns from Dan Loughney, a 20-yard fumble recovery from Ethan Stanchik, and a 95-yard kickoff return from Mike Hommes to take a 28-7 halftime lead.
Loughney scored his third touchdown of the game from 4-yards out late in the third quarter and Andrew Dickerson added a 7-yard touchdown with 8:34 remaining. Sam Somerville kicked his sixth extra point to make the final 42-7.
The victory sets up a showdown for all the marbles in the Big Rivers Conference next Friday, Oct. 12, in Menomonie. Hudson and Menomonie both enter the game with records of 6-0 in the BRC, 7-0 overall.
